We've got a permission from Roger Balister, G3KMA to publish his letter to our team leader Alex, UT5UY:
Hello Alex
Many thanks for all the validation material. Everything is in order and on the basis
of your C93DY operation from Chiloane Island we can confirm the issue of AF 098 to the Sofala District group. Please accept our congratulations.
We were sorry to hear about your problems with getting the equipment from
Johannesburg. This must have been a big disappointment after all your planning. Glad you were able to borrow some equipment from Silvano. Anyway you had a workable signal on most bands although it was best on CW, hi!
About the cards, please make sure they have Chiloane Island printed on them.
Back on the mainland I was particularly pleased to work C91CW on Top Band - signals were weak but readable on one evening only - and on the other LF bands.
Thanks for all your efforts and please pass our appreciation to the whole team. Iam sure that Victor would have been proud of your operation in his memory.
Best wishes
Roger Balister, G3KMA

Message from Roman, UR0MC
73! Roma UR0MC
P.S.
Regards from Mozambique ! 3-th day staying in Maputu. Luggage still not received yet, due strike of workers of South Africa Airways. No info about finishing date of the strike. It's possible to loose our equipment... We will hope on the best !
73! Roma UR0MC
P.S.
We have one IC-706 and bought battery and wire in hypermarket. Now we use 20 m dipole, erected 3 meters by the groung
At this night we made a test of condition on low bands with my father, UT3MD. He sent the signal on 160 m and 80 m (1 kW and Inv.Vee) from Rubezhnoe, Lugansk region in Ukraine. We hear this signal S7 on 80 m and S5 on 160. All TopBanders have good chance to make new one ! Stay tuned !

We successfully reached C9-land. Luggage still not delivered yet. But we had bought battery and some wire and first 15 qso's was made. Stay tuned !

Members of our team prepared antennas these weekend. The Tribander YAGI Cushcraft A3S has been demounted from a roof of Dimas /UT5UGR/ house.
|
Then a few vertical self brew antennas had been tested on the coast of the Dnepro river. These antennas showed a good results on Low bands. By the way, they are made of telescopic fishing tackles and have very small weight, that certainly is big plus.
Here is the list of the equipment which is planned to be used:
- transceivers Yaesu FT847, Kenwood TS-570D, Yaesu FT100D, Alinco DX70 and Icom MKIIG.
- amplifiers Ameritron AL-811 and home made 500 watts (GU-43B tube)
- antennas YAGI Cushcraft A3S and Fritzel FB-33, verticals for Low and WARC bands, numerous of wires antennas
- notebooks, generators, masts etc.
All about 300 kg. of cargo.

Seems the long road with many adventures waits for us. During DXpedition we will overcome more than 25000 kms by airplane, bus, ship in total. Probably the most heavy would be a way from Maputo to Beira Port by minibus. It is about 1000 kms on bad roads of Mozambique. Then the fishing schooner will deliver us to Chiloane Island. It will be eight hour extreme navigation across Indian ocean. The airplane is the most comfortable transport which will be used by the members of our DXpedition. We fly on a route: Kiev-Dubai-Johannesburg-Maputo. Here is our air ticket:
